Why Social Media Marketing Still Matters in December

December always seems to show up fast, especially when you’re running a small business. Between wrapping up the year and squeezing in holiday sales, it’s easy to let things like posting on social media slip to the bottom of the list. But here’s the thing, just because it’s a busy season doesn’t mean it’s time to go quiet online.
Social media marketing for small businesses still makes a difference in December. People might be off work, but they’re still scrolling, still shopping, and still paying attention. Staying present on platforms helps your business stay fresh in their minds, not just for the holidays but as the new year begins. Even as the calendar fills up, those small touches on social media can make people think of your business when it’s time to make a choice or a purchase.
Why Sticking with Social Media Still Counts in December
Your customers don’t disappear in December. In fact, many are more active online now than any other time. They’re browsing for gifts, checking on holiday hours, or searching for last-minute services. Showing up on social media helps you meet people where they already are, on their phones.
• When people are thinking about gifts, they might spot your post and remember what you offer
• A quick reminder post about a seasonal discount or extended hours can answer questions before they’re even asked
• Even a simple “we’re open today” message helps ease minds and nudge people through your door
Staying visible doesn’t mean you have to flood your feed with constant updates. A few thoughtful posts each week can be more than enough. As long as your business keeps appearing, you’re in the mix. Customers feel more at ease when they know you’re still around. Even if they aren’t ready to buy right now, regular posts mean your business is in their hearts and minds for the moments they are.
98 Buck Social helps small businesses stay active online during busy seasons with affordable month-to-month packages that include custom post writing, platform scheduling, and ongoing support. Their US-based team creates posts that keep your brand in front of your audience, no matter how hectic December gets.
What Happens When You Go Quiet Too Soon
It’s tempting to take a break from posting when schedules get tight. But when a business goes quiet too early in the month, it can seem like they’ve already checked out for the year, and customers may do the same.
Missing a couple of weeks on social media doesn’t always go unnoticed. People quickly move on to businesses that are showing up in their feeds. They may assume you’re closed or fully booked, even if that’s not the case.
• You might miss out on last-minute shoppers searching for local deals
• Year-end appointments could go to someone else simply because they posted first
• People making New Year plans may forget what you offer if they stopped seeing your name around
Staying consistent through December doesn’t just fill gaps now, it helps people carry your brand with them into January. Momentum continues when you stay visible, and customers are more likely to remember your business when they’re planning ahead. That extra little bit of attention you give to your social media can carry forward, and you never know which post might make the difference for someone who is still deciding.
Simple Ways Social Posts Can Work with a Busy December Schedule
You don’t need a big campaign to stay active online in December. Even small, helpful posts go a long way.
• Share your holiday hours so people know when to visit
• Post a quick thank-you to customers to remind them you appreciate their support
• Add a festive photo or quick reminder about a seasonal product or service
If you’re stretched thin, support can help keep posts going behind the scenes. That way, even on your busiest days, your social media still makes an appearance, just like turning on a light in the window to say you’re still around.
The good news is, posts this month don’t need to be fancy. They just need to be friendly, clear, and consistent. Sometimes, a simple image with a cheerful holiday message is what stands out. Even if you’re just posting a friendly wish or a photo of your decorated storefront, it’s enough to remind your audience you’re still engaged. Try thinking ahead a little; write down ideas for posts when you have a moment, so you’re not scrambling for content when you have less time during the rush.
Getting Ready Now Means Less Stress Later
Planning a handful of posts early in the month can make the rest of December feel a lot easier. When you know your updates are already written and scheduled, you spend less time worrying about what to post each day.
It helps to treat some posts like holiday prep, do them ahead of time so you can be more present during the actual rush.
• Set a few reminders about your seasonal specials or end-of-year updates
• Schedule customer thank-yous around the week of Christmas or New Year’s
• Make space for any last-minute live updates without the pressure of handling everything at once
Posting now can also help build stronger momentum as January starts. People don’t stop scrolling after Christmas, and being consistent in December keeps their attention going into the new year. When customers are ready to look for the next thing, your business is already waiting for them, not lost in the shuffle. Scheduling posts ahead of time frees you to handle the surprises December brings, and you’ll never miss a chance to reach customers.
Even if you only come up with a few simple posts early, it adds up. Consistency beats complexity, especially in a season when everyone is busy. The less you have to scramble during the peak times, the more you can focus on providing good service to customers who walk through your door or message you online.
Keep Showing Up When It Matters Most
Social media doesn’t pause for the holidays. Even a few quiet updates in someone’s feed can remind them that your business is still showing up, still working, and still part of the community.
Consistent posts in December help people remember your name. When they’re making plans for January, they’ll think back to the businesses they saw recently. That kind of steady presence can lead to stronger starts and smoother transitions long after the decorations come down.
Staying visible this time of year isn’t about pushing harder, it’s about staying steady. When other businesses fade from view, the ones still posting have a better shot at staying top of mind.
If your business has ever felt forgotten after a long break from posting, you know how tough it can be to get attention when you start again. By staying present all month, you set yourself up for an easier start come January. Instead of trying to rebuild your audience, you’ll be right there when customers are ready to reach out.
At 98 Buck Social, we know how important it is to keep your business present online, especially when things get busy. December may feel packed, but staying active can help you finish the year strong and start the next one with momentum.
